Robert Halsey 1917-2007

The only grandfather I ever knew passed away tonight. The last time I saw him was at our wedding last year. He had been deteriorating since that time, and I knew his passing would come eventually, but its still so sad to see him go. I have one remaining grandparent, after which comes the next generation, including my parents.... time marches on.

Things I will remember about "Plop" as he was called:

Him stealing my milk at the dinner table, when I was small, and feigning innocence every time
His version of rice pudding concocted after every Indian food dinner much to my dad's disgust His endless list of projects to fix around the house every time he visited
How he never said anything... he sang it instead
The six months I lived with them when I was 18 and they were so wonderful to me
His endless stories always told with a twinkle in his eye
The gorgeous garden and pond he built in the Cloverdale house

I'm so sad for my Grandma who has been married over 60 years and has lost her life partner. I'm sad for my mom and her siblings who have lost their dad. I'm sad for us grandchildren and great-grandchildren who have lost a terribly important part of our past and our family.
