New carpets are coming, new carpets are coming! It's only been five months, but within the next two weeks, we should have a whole 900 extra sq.ft of living space! Just in time for the big brouhaha, otherwise known as xmas.
It would be nice, instead of gifts this year, to announce an impending birth. We will keep our fingers and ovaries crossed.
And yet, as I celebrate extra living space, I have been feeling overly aware lately of how much poverty exists in this city. It has been wretched the last few days, watching the mothers bundle up their children and walk them to school in -39.c temps. without proper winter gear for themselves. It's emotionally draining, because I cannot give enough money or time to really make a difference, but it is so painful driving by and not having the ability to help. Summer is a great time to ignore need. Sunny days and balmy temperatures really mask those that are without. It exist nonetheless, but poverty seems much more poignant during the holiday season and when Jack Frost is nipping at your nose.
